Stride & Ride Day 2009
Congratulations Laurimar Primary School on such a great responce to Stride and Ride Day 09. The weather finally turned in our favour with not a breath of wind and beautiful sunshine for the morning. The whole community was involved and all the help is appreciated. The Stride and Ride went off without any tumbles and once again Laurimar was out in force. The whole bike shed was filled with bikes and scooters which definitely gives us scope for another bike shed in the future. The breakfast was great! All students were filled with fruit, toast and cereal to start the day. I would personally like to thank Ben and Maria from the Laurimar Fruit Shop for donating all of that juicy fresh fruit (the best fruit in Laurimar) and bakers delight for donating the bread for toast. A big thanks to Whittlesea council (Mairead O'Sullivan and Felicity Jackson) for donating $100 for to buy the breakfast and milk for the students, Rebecca Richards from Athletes Foot and Ross Eagleton from Bicycle Victoria for donating the great prizes for the students. A successful morning isn't possible without the support of the great enthusiastic staff and fantastic parents. Everyone was so helpful on the day which makes life easier for everyone so once again - THANK YOU!!!

Interschool Sport this week was played at home against St.Mary's Primary from Whittlesea. Despite some one sided scores all coaches are really impressed with the improvement and effort from all students. In particular, Mr Nolan was 'really proud' about the way the football boys conducted themselves in their game and the way they all are showing resilience in difficult situations. Mrs Blake is very happy with the progression of all netballers and learning new positions etc.... Mr McBean's Tee-Ball team just keeps chalking up victories. Keep up the great reports Laurimar!!

Athletics 2009
Laurimar Primary School was involved in it's 1st District Athletics Carnival in the Diamond Valley District at Meadowglen Athletics Track in Epping. The weather was on our side for the day and all athletes didn't dissapoint. Chantal Williams from 5/6 A was our first placing in athletics with a great display of discus in the 11 girls event. Emily Richard was our first students at the school to obtain a blue ribbon after her scintillating 100meter sprint. Other placings included
Name Placing Event
Jake Richards 2nd 10 boys long jump
Chloe Beard 4th 11 girls 100m sprint
Josh Richardson 2nd 11 boys 100m sprint
A major focus on the District Athletics was to 'have a go' and adopt the 'do you best' attitude. While competing all students attitudes were spot on. Not only did they have a go but they supported eachother also. Next year we will be striving toward getting every relay team to the final in each year level. Great effort by all our students. All students should be very excited and proud of their efforts and moving forward to athletics next year.

Basketball Round Robin
On the 6th of August students represented Laurimar Primary School in the Toorourong district’s basketball round robin. There were 9 other schools competing and a first try at basketball for some. It was a shaky start to the day waiting for the bus for over an hour although we made it to Wallan Basketball Stadium eventually. We had 4 teams across grades 3-6 represent the school. All students improved on different aspects of basketball throughout the day. Our emphasis for the day was to play together as a team and have a go. All students did just that!! From the start of the day to the finish you could see improvements in all students. Although we didn’t win too many games (1 for the day) students never stopped enjoying themselves. I know the supporters, Mr McBean and I were very impressed with everyone’s endeavour and teamwork. Well done Laurimar Basketball Team!!!

Ride2School Day - Term 3
Laurimar Primary School had our Ride2School Day today on the 5th of August. It was also the opening of the fantastic bike shed. Thankyou to all staff and parents who attended and supported the morning. Also a big thank you to our special guests, Mairead O'Sullivan from Whittlesea concil, the Delphin team and Ross Eagleton from Bicycle Victoria. It was another great success.
There was a total of 86 bikes and 12 scooters stored in the bike shed. for the day. A fantastic effort considering we only have 132 students at the school. There were a number of children that also walked to school which is also a great effort. Not a breath of wind this morning brought the enthusiastic Laurimar Community out in force for the occasion. We should all be proud of our committment to sustainable transport in the community. Thank you all for your support once again.

Cross Country 2009
On Thursday the 21st of May Laurimar Primary was involved in its first District Cross Country. We had 24 dedicated students train for 4 weeks to participate in the event.
Laurimar Primary School competed against the 10 other schools in our Diamond Valley District. Only having a small number of students involved meant we weren't involved in the race to be the winning school. The focus throughout Cross Country was participation and commitment to training. All students involved have displayed both of these over the past few weeks. I have seen great improvement in all students' fitness levels and attitudes towards running. All students involved should be very proud of their efforts. A special mention should go out to the parents and Mr McBean for transporting the competitors to Bundoora Park. I know students are really keen for the next District event... Bring on Athletics!!!!

National Walk Safely to School Day
Friday15th of May was National Walk To School Day. Laurimar Primary came out in force once again to support the day.
A great number participated including a huge number of students, parents, delphin representatives and Laurimar staff. A big thank you should definitely go to Ann Jessop and the delphin team for donating bottled water and the great show bags for the students! Also, a huge thanks to Felicity Jackson from 'Go for your life' and the Whittlesea council for donating morning tea and attending our event. Parents were instrumental in getting their children down to the meeting point on time with great enthusiasm. Please look forward to pictures of Walk Safely To School Day in the local paper.
We will be having our own ride to school day in week 9 of this term. We are all looking forward to this!! Thank you again for everyone's continued support.
